Pangea Café

Website
This simple but appealing “world food” restaurant has all but phased out the “market” part of the business since it opened in 2006. Owners Martin Rudderforth (from Argentina) and his wife, Wendy – one of the city’s most talented pastry chefs – named their restaurant after Pangea, the hypothetical supercontinent that existed before the landmasses separated and drifted apart. At first, the Rudderforths offered a variety of salads, sandwiches and small plates influenced by the traditional fare of Thailand, Italy, Ireland, India, Mexico and Argentina in a casual, order-at-the-counter style. That’s still how lunch works, but the Rudderforths now offer full-service dinners during the evening hours, with more generous portions from an expanded menu. - Charles Ferruzza
