Party Like a Pole

People always make a big deal out of St. Patrick's Day, but really, how special is it? It's not hard to find a celebration of Irish culture anytime of year — listen to the Dropkick Murphys, rent The Departed or order a Guinness at any of a dozen local Irish-themed pubs. Now, Polski Day — that's something unique. When do you ever hear people talking about how awesome the Polish are?Find out just how great they are today at the 24th-annual Polski Day celebration, at the All Saints Church Hall (809 Vermont in Kansas City, Kansas). The main attraction is the parade, which starts at noon at the corner of 18th Street and Central and ends at the church. Once you reach the church, partake in the Polish dinner from noon to 7 p.m. The meal includes golambki (cabbage rolls), the filled dumplings known as pierogi, kielbasa and kapusta (aka sauerkraut). Also, check out the polka bands, Polish artifacts on display, a raffle and, perhaps most awesome, a 4 p.m. Polka Polish Mass. All funds raised benefit the church. Polski Day
